General Maintenance You Can Complete Yourself

The Following Details refer to average trailer use with a maximum of 10,000km driven per annum:

After the first 50km

-Check Tyre Pressure & Inflate to recommended value.

-Check wheel nuts for tightness & tighten if necessary.

Every 500km or 1x per month

- Check wheel nuts for tightness & Tighten is necessary.

​

every 2000km or 1x per month

-Check the tyre pressure and inflate to the recommended value.

-Check the working of the entire braking system and the handbrake.

-Inspect the lighting system, reflectors and signs for damage, completeness and functionality. The individual components are plugs, cables, rear lights, front, side and rear reflectors, the registration plate and the registration plate lighting. 

 

every 5000km or six months

 

Tyre wear, wheels
Check the ageing condition of the tyres (e.g. cracks, porous spots) and measure the tread depth in the middle of the tyres. Inspect the rims for visible damage (concentricity, wobble) and swap or repair the wheels as axle sets or in pairs.

Coupling ball & Coupling
Check for visible damage and inspect the components for correct function and wear.

​

Jockey wheel
Check the Jockey wheel for function and stability and lubricate the movable parts. 

​

Lubrication
Remove hubcaps and re pack grease into the wheel bearings & ensure excess grease is stored in the hub cap.

​

Mounting bolts
Check tightness of all mounting bolts.

Pay particular attention to the bolted connections on the chassis. Immediately tighten any loose bolts. Replace any worn or rusty bolted connections.

Tie down points / Lashing points
Check the lashing points (tie-down lugs, rings, brackets), lashing chains and ropes for damage and presence and replace them if necessary.

​

Winch
Oil the bearing bushing and the drum hub and grease the sprocket, the thread on the crank handle and the pulley. 

​

Hydraulic system (pump, hoses, cylinders, connections)
Check the functionality of the hydraulic system, check for hydraulic fluid leaks and have the system repaired if necessary. Inspect the hydraulic hoses for cracks, ageing and wear. Clean and lubricate the connection points of the hydraulic cylinders. 

​

Battery
Visually inspect for external damage or leaks of battery acid. Charge weak batteries and replace any defective or old batteries. 

​

Galvanising

visually inspect all surfaces for damage to galvanising.

if rust is present; wire brush rust back to clean bare steel and apply Rust converter (allow to dry), Apply Cold Galv Spray (Allow to dry) & Finally apply Bright Silver Galv spray.

Replace or repair defective or damaged parts. Check locks / hinges and grease if required. Check fixed superstructures for tightness and function.
